A real estate broker’s essential job function is to represent sellers and buyers in real estate transactions, just like a real estate agent. However, brokers are slightly different. Brokers are highly qualified agents who have completed additional education and training. They also can work independently or start their own brokerage. Real estate agents must work under the supervision of brokers until they receive their broker’s licenses. All licensing for real estate agents and brokers are subject to state-specific regulations.
