How Much Do You Pay a Real Estate Agent?

You can expect to pay a real estate agent around 6% of your home’s sale price. As a seller, you won’t make direct payments to your real estate agent. You’ll pay your broker a commission fee. The broker then splits the commission between the agency and the agent (the agent works for the broker). Agents can earn their broker’s license and work independently.

While the commission rate may seem high, remember that your agent will still need to pay taxes and applicable fees.

Work with your agent to sell your home at or above market value—the commission is just one piece of the transaction.
